Model X-ray for Power BI

Free · open source · runs in your browser

Your BI expert leaves on Friday.
What do they leave behind?

Drop a Power BI template. See every measure, the source each number comes from, the visuals that depend on it, and what nobody wrote down.

Fictional 5-entity group, synthetic data

Get a .pbit in a minute

  1. Open your report in Power BI Desktop.
  2. File › Export › Power BI template.
  3. Drop the file above.

A template holds the model, the measures and the report pages, but no data rows. A .pbix can't be read in a browser: its model is stored in a compressed format.

What you get

  • Every measure, with its DAX, its description (or the lack of one), and the measures it depends on.
  • The full path of a number: data source › table › column › measure › visual.
  • What changes if you touch a measure: every measure and visual downstream.
  • Hard-coded values, duplicates, measures used nowhere, files on someone's desktop.
  • An Excel measure dictionary you can hand to the next person.

Your file stays on your computer

Everything runs in this page: nothing is uploaded, there is no account and no tracking. The code is open, so you can check, and the page works offline once loaded.
